New look

Filed under: Blog — admin @ 12:55 pm

Just edited the layout of the site (in case you’re blind and you didn’t really notice).

Going to add more things around, look at the side-bar for fun things.

Been working hard on stuff the last few weeks so been slack on updating. Will update soon ’cause now I’m “free” for a few days.

Keep things in perspective

I was sitting in my car waiting for the lights to change when I heard one of my least favourite songs play on the radio. This song really irks me, not because it’s awful but because of the message that the song conveys. The song is “Dear Mr. President” by Pink.

What’s wrong with the lyrics? This song just highlights the fact that people are ignorant about what being the President of the United States actually entails. People probably are blind to what he does because most individuals have weak realities and are easily drawn into other people’s realities: media realities of how bad the war is, what the situation of the world is, whatever. Sure enough, GWB may not be the greatest president ever, and I think he’s a pathetic public speaker, but lets take a look at what being president would be like.

You would probably be one of the world’s most hated person, if not the most hated person in the world. On top of that, you have to make decisions that affect everyone in the entire world. On top of that, you know that whatever decision you make, more people are going to hate you for it. But you want to do what is right for most people. You have a responsibility to everyone in your country to do what you think is the best for them, even if they bite your hand after you feed them. The country is put first and its people kept free. Every day, things happen in the world that threatens his people. He makes the decisions that he thinks will protect them best. On top of that, every day, things happen that threatens or harms people in other countries. And he makes decisions that can help these countries as well. I’m sure you get the idea to the level of responsibility that I am trying to convey that the President has. It’s phenomenal.

You don’t have to read the lyrics. I’ll sum it up for you after.

Dear
Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let’s pretend we’re just two people and
You’re not better than me.
I’d like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly. What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Are you proud?

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?

Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
Are you a lonely boy?
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We’re not dumb and we’re not blind.
They’re all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell.

What kind of father would take his own daughter’s rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say
You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.

How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Can you even look me in the eye?

Summary: Do you see what’s happening in the world? Do you feel any pain from this?

Of course, besides from the horrid music of the song, these are all valid questions. It would even be interesting to hear his honest answers. But here’s the killer part of the song:

Let me tell you ’bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you ’bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you ’bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you ’bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don’t know nothing ’bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh

How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You’d never take a walk with me.
Would you?

Dear Pink, try leading the most important country in the world for a day and tell me that it’s not hard work. He doesn’t know anything about hard work? What? Try making decisions that determine whether hundreds of people die or whether thousands people should be injured. Lets digress from that. I have no idea about the history of GWB, but Pink obviously insinuates that he used to be an alcoholic and drug addict. Hard work? Try rising above your addictions and working to become the President of the United freaking States. It’s not a simple job right there.

How does he walk with his head held high? He leads a country, he practically leads the world. If he looks beaten, everyone would feel lost. I’m simply tired of people beating down on people of high power or status. People who own massive companies are people too. Just before, I read a thread about how well Apple was doing in the market now and people were commenting on how it was all about greed and power. It perfectly well may be about greed and power. But perhaps Steve Jobs is just a hard worker and knows exactly what he wants and what his products are worth. Most people will never rise above mediocrity because they sit around and complain about the people who have.

I imagine that if GWB would respond to Pink in a completely honest way (assuming he isn’t a complete retard like the media portrays him as), he would respond with something similar to:

Dear Pink,

I would never take a walk with you.

I’m too busy sacrificing my life so that you can sing songs like this.

It’s not very often that I want something really, really bad. I’ve had a few things that I’ve obsessed about over the last few years… well, I can’t even think of any off the top of my head that I haven’t put off till later (ie. motorbikes, leaving, etc).

One of the things that I have obsessed about before though is phones. I’ve always wanted cool phones. My o2 atom is awesome. It’s touchscreen and though it’s a little big for a phone, it’s still awesome. I fell in love with o2′s when my dad got one. Then one day, through luck and the kindness of a Chinese businessman, I came into possession with my current phone. Its black, its sexy and it has served me well. But I have my eyes on another woman… err, phone.

I am an apple fanboy. I love my macbook. In fact, I’m writing this on my macbook right now. I barely go anywhere without my baby. I sleep with it, I go to uni with it, if clubbing wasn’t about socialising then I would probably go clubbing with it too. My windows machine is neglected and only really used when I’m chilling to watch Naruto or Bleach during lunchtimes. The o2 only syncs to Windows. It makes me sad that my phone isn’t able to be updated. I can’t even add songs and new data to it from my macbook. They just don’t get along. There’s just no chemistry.

Introducing the object of my desires: the iphone. This beautiful piece of gadgetery has been in my sights since the rumors have been flying around. My o2 had lost its luster and I had been searching for a new companion for a while. Then this sexy, black mistress strides past me. I want. So bad.

Why am I making a fuss about it now? I caught wind of some news that the mistress was selling herself for cheap now. 299US. This is after a section on radio this morning that told me that the iphone had been unlocked and the code for it being unlocked was being sold, which meant that I would be able to use the phone functions now. Two pieces of news in one day. The universe WANTS me to buy one!

Donate to my iphone fund.

To whomever is reading this

Filed under: Blog — admin @ 9:17 am

Not like I’ve advertised the existence of this blog/site much, but I thought I’d give an update on what I’m planning to do on this site to whoever reads this.

I plan to put pieces of writing here. Obviously, only my safer and more public friendly writings, and as I collate my articles at the moment to see what I should put here, it’s become obvious that this is a hard task to do, but I endeavor to write things that appeal to more audiences and not just my usual select group.

I will also eventually place ads and possibly a shop up, mainly so my eBay customers can get a better deal with things, thus more sales and I eventually want to own a few passive sources of income, and this site may be a base for that. Or perhaps I’ll start another site that is linked to this. The possibilities are endless.

So yeah life is exciting, might be studying medicine next year, might not. If I do, it’s in Adelaide which is… far away from home. And not the good kind of far away either. I always wanted to move away from Brisbane, but I was hoping for an upgrade…

If anyone wants access to anything, just ask me, I’m not too fussed about people screwing around with the functions in the site. Obviously the site’s domain is fairly personal and most people wouldn’t like a x@mattylee.net account or whatever, but if anyone wants my services (say, you know me from some form of organisation and would like me to host a forum) then just tell me. I might want to expand my ownership of the internet soon and buy another domain name that people would be more comfortable hosting stuff in.

Ask and you may or may not receive
